At Santa Clarita Family Optometry, we strive to provide comprehensive, primary eye care for the whole family. Preventative and routine eye exams are important to maintaining good eye health. Often, eye and vision problems do not have obvious symptoms or signs, but are easily diagnosed by a licensed optometrist. By diagnosing eye and vision conditions early on, we are able provide treatment options and in many cases restore or prevent vision loss. The American Optometric Association recommends yearly or bi-yearly eye and vision exams, depending on whether you are at-risk or not.
Vision Exam and Eye Health
While 20/20 eyesight is important, it is even more important to understand that vision is beyond 20/20.
During the comprehensive exam at Santa Clarita Family Optometry, we will evaluate your eyesight, prescription, depth perception, color vision, eye health, and even more.
Dr. Carol Mikhail will ask you questions about any symptoms or issues you are experiencing, medications you are currently taking, any blurry vision, your work environment, and your overall health. Family history and previous eye or vision conditions will also be discussed during this part of the examination. Dr. Mikhail will consider this information when determining any treatments or recommendations.
As part of your comprehensive vision exam, the health of the eye is evaluated to rule out any ocular diseases, including glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration. In addition,the evaluation of your eye health, may allow us to discover signs that may be indicative of undiagnosed systemic diseases, such as diabetes and high blood pressure.
After your comprehensive vision and eye health exam, Dr. Mikhail reviews the results and discusses any necessary treatment options with you, including but not limited to, glasses, contacts, and LASIK (or other surgical options).
